"th"の発音が[θ]と[ð]のどちらになるかという簡単な規則は見つかりません。頻度傾向は、[ð]の場合は少く、[θ]の場合が多いです。 [ð]になる場合は少数の重要単語がほとんどですから、その暗記はさほど難しくありません。 これまでに判明している規則性は以下です。
